The Joys of Homeownership

Argh!

As if I couldn’t get more derailed on my own.

I have to leave town the middle of next week, and will most likely be returning with an elderly relative in tow.

All specific projects are once again on hold, and this weekend will be a massive blitz cleaning.  But, the carport entry area will get cleaned up as a result, so that’s something, right?

Wish me luck on all counts.

Thank god for OCD moments…

Especially for me – when they’re cleaning related. Mainly because I don’t have them very often at all.

The vanity project is still in play, no worries. Last night I went nuts in the kitchen for a little while. Everything between the fridge and the stove has been put away, cleaned, scrubbed, organized, and is quite shiny and nice.  The most pathetic part?  I think it took 30 minutes TOPS.

Today I am attempting the same on the breakfast bar section of counter, which is a HUGE magnet for crap.

I still think the flamethrower approach would work best, but I am sure the insurance company would disagree.

674 days.

Craziness

OK, life has gotten WAY ahead of me, but I’ve not abandoned the project at all.

Hell, the countdown to “sale without tax consequences” has begun: 694 days.  By then, this place had better be sale ready so if it is time to pull chalks and go, I can.  (And I think it will be time.)

Apartment Therapy – The Eight Step Home Cure

Filed under: 8 Week Cure, Miscellany — CDC @ 5:23 pm

Well, I received the book today. Just glancing at the first few pages, it looks like it will at least be interesting.

In other news, I’ve managed to at least kind of, sort of maintain since the blitz the other day.

Last night I was thinking about “what I do” – sometimes when I look at things in terms of a job, it makes it easier or just helps me see things differently. I run a very exclusive hedge fund. (IE, just my money) Private restaurant with 3-6 covers a day. Run a five bedroom B&B with two permanent guests. Triathlete. Of those 4 things, I do one very well. The other three I suck at.

Maybe I’ll get better and be great at all 4 someday. It’s worth trying at least, isn’t it?

The Rundown

Filed under: Miscellany — CDC @ 11:16 am

My brother & I inherited this house. 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, basement, living room, family room, dining room, carport, yard, deck. It’s a perfectly nice house. There is nothing inherently wrong with it, except for the fact that it’s more than either of us need – but, there is a dog involved, and it does have a yard. So, what is the problem?

We are both slobs. This is not a good thing. We might have had a fighting chance had we put it on the market immediately upon receiving it, but…

I am a master procrastinator, slob, and generally hate housework and home improvement. In order to have this place “sale ready”, there will have to be massive decluttering, painting, some carpets replaced, etc, etc, etc. And, you would think that given the fact that I only occupy 3 rooms in the entire house, kitchen, living room & bedroom – this should be simple. HA!

Between those challenges and working full time (at least for myself, and out of the house) and life in general – it’s going to be a hell of a challenege. But – I need to be able to flip this sucker on a moments notice if I want to go when I hit that 2 year tax mark. (Please do not ask, “But what about the dog?!” He will be fine. He will go nowhere without us. Trust me.)

If I am still stuck here for a while when I hit that mark, it’s OK – as long as the place is ready to roll, it’s all good, cause at least the place will be in lovely showroom shape.  Or at least that is the theory…

Here’s the long and short of it…  A couple years back I was in a townhouse that I didn’t like very much and was actually seriously thinking about selling it and going for a much smaller place.  Through circumstances insanely beyond my control, I am now in a four bedroom single family home.  The townhouse is on the market, and as soon as it sells, the 2 year tax countdown begins to getting this place sale ready.

It is very much NOT sale ready right now.

And ahead will be the chronicles of trying to get it sale ready.

So I can get a damn condo.
